Mister Boy Style: Stripes & Polka Dots

When I found out I was having a baby boy, I was all sorts of happy!  I was also excited about picking out cute clothes for him and I couldn't wait to get my hands on some one-of-a-kind vintage pieces.  Well, the reality is a little different when shopping for a boy-there just aren't as many pieces to choose from!  It's obvious-the baby girls section is always overflowing at the brims.  And, the boys stuff is too dude for my tastes (I am not a fan of boys clothing that has cars, motorcycles, big lions on it and graphic tees that say things like "I am a stud..." no thanks!).

So, when shopping for Maverick I keep basics in mind so I can mix and match his outfits.  I also always pick up anything with stripes (his favorite!) in shades of gray, blue, black and white.  Graphic tees are great when the graphic is something classic, hip and that doesn't necessarily scream boy.  I like to dress him in bold colors as well, especially when it comes to his accessories.  He wears a pair of brightly colored striped leggings and fun hats.  Nautical details are another favorite of mine!  And finally, I love to see him rocking a sweet little vintage romper or two, which I have managed to score.

Where do I shop?  I always dig like crazy in the kids sections at every thrift shop I go into!  I have found some great pieces that are like brand new since babies don't wear clothing that long.  That's also wear I come across vintage and lots of bigger sizes that I have been stockpiling for the future.  And I am not afraid to look in the girls section-that's where I found Mav's polka-dotted leggings!  I also love local, small boutiques or consignment shops.  They have lots of fun stuff at deep discounts and I have found some interesting labels or handmade things.

Once I have all these cute things, I mix and match patterns and colors like crazy on Mav!  So, he looks kinda like a mini me in his colorful, mismatched outfits.  Check!  And dressing a boy is a tad challenging but loads of fun once you figure out a style that works.  My best advice? (not that I am a pro by any means)  Always check thrift or second hand shops first!  Babies grow by the minute, so I think it's pretty senseless to spend lots of money on brand new or super fancy labeled clothing.

Ok, take it away Maverick!
